What to expect on our Mekong Tour
The Mekong Delta offers a feast of incredible imagery, from action-packed markets on water to slow-living fishing communities, from scenes of tropical abundance to industrial documentary. We’ll take our time to explore each spot in depth, making sure of images that tell the story of today’s life along the Great Mekong. Most of our shooting will happen in the early mornings and towards sunset, and we’ll travel between places while the sun is high in the sky. For photographers of all levels and experience, this is the way to explore this magical place.
Beginning in Ho Chi Minh City, we’ll enjoy a photographic exploration of the busy canals, markets, and floating villages branching off the Saigon River. A heaven for street and documentary photography, this is a great opportunity to start looking at how to create a visual story with our cameras.
Out in the Delta, we’ll photograph an early morning floating market, one of the most colorful and authentic in southern Vietnam. Cameras in hand we’ll drift between the boats, capturing images of the traders shuttling to and fro in the morning sun. We’ll experiment with different shutter speeds and compositions to capture the special vibe of this place.
We then head east to explore the traditional flower-growing town of Sa Dec, taking working portraits of the farmers, as well as scenes of riverside life.
At the epic traditional brick factory of Mang Thit, we’ll be looking at architectural photography, as well as exploring deep within the factory with our cameras. Light streaming through the walls provides a warm, ambient atmosphere for our images of the workers in action.
Returning to Ho Chi Minh City, we’ll stop by a little-known village producing red incense for some vivid images in the setting sun. It all makes for an unforgettable adventure in Vietnam’s tropical waterworld.
